Test flights started at new Corvera airport

test aircraft (Beechcraft)

The first flight has landed at Corvera International Airport in order to test out the navigation and operating systems at the airport.

The test was overseen by AENA (Spanish public body that owns and operates the majority of airports in Spain), who monitored the radio, radar and navigation systems for aircraft when taking off and landing at the airport from a number of different heights and headings. Such calibration needs to be undertaken in order to prove that the airport complies with the International Civil Aviation Organization and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

AENA will submit their findings to the various airlines who have expressed an interest in flying into Corvera.Corvera

The test flights were originally scheduled to take place in February, but had to be postponed due to delays in the negotiation process with AENA, caused by the change of central government administration at the end of last year.

The AENA president ensures that flights will start from October at Corvera. San Javier airport has flights scheduled for the coming winter season, so a full operation in Corvera could be delayed to the summer of next year.

Press Release March 2012

Spanish property sales on the rise?

Positive figures for November from the Instituto Nacional de Estadistica.

In January 2012 the figures published by the Instituto Nacional de Estadística or INE (the Spanish National Statistics Institute), show in November 2011 a first clear increase in the number of homes sold. The number of transactions rose by a substantial 17.9% compared with October 2011.

In order to encourage sales of Spanish properties, the government of Zapatero decreased the VAT on purchases of new homes from 8% to 4% during late August 2011. The current government of Mariano Rajoy of the Popular Party has now decided to advance the measure till the end of 2012.

The question arose whether such an upward sales trend would continue into December and possibly January.

Meanwhile, the figures for December 2011 are known. The positive move is not continuing: for December, a decline of 16.9% compared with October 2011 is registered and for the full year, sales declined 22.3% compared with 2010.

These figures relate to Spain as a whole and make no distinction between the coastal and the other parts of Spain.
Also you can not find back in the statistics what the nationality is of the buyers. And whether the purchase of homes are higher in the coastal areas compared with the rest of Spain.

Houses and apartments in demand.

According to Johan Conix the requests from foreigners for villas and apartments within walking distance of the sea amount to 95% of the total incoming requests.
Several successful developers, and with this we mean parties that continue to build and sell, are starting new projects near the beaches. Locations that until now were found too expensive to develop can now be advantageously purchased and developed at market prices.

New apartments near the sea or sea view can be bought starting from 120 000 Euro.

A new trend we observe is that new developments are clearly designed with the needs and desires of us, "Northerners" in mind. South orientation and a large terrace (and if possible a roof terrace) are still on the priority list of many potential customers.
Sleek, modern design is definitely a plus. A few people are looking more inland for a traditional finca with typical arches and turrets.

Our experience was and is that the number of Belgians who visit Spain for to purchase a property is still rising. In January this meant a plus of 27% compared with January last year and this continues in February with a rise by 36% of the number of visitors and buyers.

Spain: only doom and gloom?

Nowadays Belgium and The Netherlands are inundated with daily negative news about Spain.
Each reporter has a story about how bad the situation is in Spain. But is it really just doom and gloom? Or is the old adage of "one man's death is another's bread" a more appropriate description?

The figures for February 2012 of the Instituto Nacional de Estadística or INE (the Spanish National Statistics Institute) shows just once more that the trade in real estate goes in the right direction. A slight decrease of -6.2% against January 2012 is still a very good result. The impressive increase in the number of homes sold in January 2012 with an increase of 42% against December 2011 is very difficult to repeat. It is now the 2nd month in a row that the number of homes sold is more than 67 000 units.

The figures also show that out of the six regions that are performing above average, 3 are popular holiday destinations: Communitat Valenciana, Region de Murcia and Andalucia.

What once again supports our interpretation that the purchase of second homes by "foreigners" is positively influencing the statistics.

Murcia: one man's death is another's bread.

Murcia, is not really known unless you start paying attention to the trucks with fresh vegetables on the motorways in Belgium or the Netherlands, or when you start reading the label of the "43" liqueur more closely.

According to La Verdad, the contraction of the economy in Murcia this year amounts to 1.1%, while the average decline for the whole of Spain is projected at 1.7%. From 2013 onwards one expect again a rise with 0.5%.

The good news? Exports rose in Murcia this year by 11%, agriculture 1.9%, industrial production by 1.7% and finally services rose by 0.8%. What causes than the general decline? That is almost exclusively attributable to the construction industry ie - 6.9%.

The "bad" news? In the past a lot of properties were built in Murcia on 4 large golf resorts. Almost more than 40 000 homes. It is this rage for building that caused a local surplus. A surplus of modern apartments and houses, 10 minutes from the beach (shuttle provided) that today is largely owned by the Spanish banks and through them offered at very favorable rates (-50%). That offer is shrinking every day, so bargain hunters should act quickly.

With the increase of tourist numbers, the opening of the new airport at Corvera in 2013 and the start of the infrastructure of the Paramount Theme Park, the future of Murcia looks bright.

La Manga Club commit to The 2015 Solheim Cup

Region de Murcia and La Manga Club commit to The 2015 Solheim Cup as sole Spanish bid

Solheim_Cup
The Solheim Cup was launched in 1990 as a female equivalent to the Ryder Cup and has grown considerably since, with the biennial event now bringing 130,000 people together to watch the game's leading female golfers battle it out, as well as attracting a global television audience.

Región de Murcia has underlined its serious commitment to staging The 2015 Solheim Cup after it emerged the prestigious La Manga Club resort is the only venue bidding to bring the event to Spain.

Following Andalucia's withdrawal from the bid process, both the Murcia and the five-star resort have demonstrated a strong political and financial commitment to staging the biennial match between Europe and the United States.

The venue and region as a whole are synonymous with golf and ahead of this summer's announcement La Manga Club has outlined the level of its support in its bid to host the 14th edition of the transatlantic match, while the region has committed to hosting tournaments on the Ladies European Tour for the next 10 years.

Región de Murcia is gearing up to focus its tourism strategy around the event in the years leading up to and including 2015.
