murcia-thumb

Murcia, also known as "the Madrid of the South", is the regional capital and with it's 650.000 inhabitants also the largest city of the province.

In former times Murcia was renowned for its role is producer and trader of silk. A visit to the Palacete de la Seda is definitely worth your attention.

A visit to Murcia has several obligatory tourist attractions such as the cathedral, the bishop's palace and the Plaza de las Flores.

The cathedral is a beautiful combination of gothic, renaissance and baroque styles and was built in the 14th century on the remains of an old mosque. The Bishop's palace and an avant-garde style building by the famous Rafael Moneo can be found bordering the very same plaza.

On the famous Plaza de las Flores -"flower plaza"- the people of Murcia come to meet and catch up on the latest news. Social networking and family make for an important aspect of the Spanish society.
Whilst drinking a glass of wine and enjoying delicious tapas in the many tapas bars you can spend hours just observing the crowd.
